From the history behind the Federalist Papers I understand that Hamilton presented a lot of nationalist material under the Federalist label. That left his opponents, who were actually the real Federalists, the only name they could come up with was the Anti-Federalists. I suppose they could have called themselves the Anti-Nationalists but they would have no opponents to be identified against.
I guess time does not vitiate fraud.
