kinda stupid, but VERY annoying!

A merchant in the village where I live called the Sheriff's Department on my sons the other night, seems they were slap-shoting a wuffle(spelling ?) ball against a building(a building that doesn't belong to him), I guess he thought it was his civil duty to protect the village from these public menaces. Anyway, I have caught them doing this before and read them the riot act, but, for this guy to yell at my sons and then call the sheriff is ridiculous. He has said something before because we play street hockey on the road in front of his shop. How can I get this guy to quit busting my b%!?s and leave us alone, we have caused no property damage or any harm to him.

Sounds like his complaint is frivilous and without merit. That should stir up some thought for you.

Have you ever thought of writing a letter demonstrating that there hasn't been any property damage and that there is no infringement on any of HIS RIGHTS ... and the nice thing to do would be for him to NOT INFRINGE ON YOUR RIGHTS.

Now, if he has another view take that into consideration... give him some time to respond... like 30 days. (On day 31 you could do an affidavit of non-response). Imagine what he would do with a letter that states: "Your non-response within 30 days signifies your tacit admission by, under and through "nihil dicit" that ... blah blah"

It might cause him to keep his big mouth closed or spend some money on an attorney... and the attorney will gladly take the fee and tell him to stop yelling about stupid stuff and to "call me when there is some property damage done!"

And look up your state/local laws in regards to "disturbing the peace"... so you can plan a strategy for that one.

But get it all down in writing.

would defamation of character also fall under what he has done, since he brought the sheriff to my door under frivilous conditions, tort action.

Not a problem Dattwing,

There is nothing petty about your rights--when someone else whose claim is not valid--causes you duress.

Look up what defamation of character means and you may want to recosider the thought.
