Talking Out of the mouths of children...

I have been taking my children one at a time into the Post Office when I go in to purchase money orders. Their "job" is to put the stamp on the envelope, lick it shut, and deposit in the mail receptacle. Last time I took my 10yo son in with me. He's the one who takes everything apart, if not literally and physically, then mentally. He noticed the forms on the counter for registering for the draft, and said,
Quote:
"That's not right! Laws aren't supposed to be against us!" ~A
I agreed with him, and handed him a form to take along for reading in the car. He also picked up a passport application.
While I was in a store with the girls, the 3 boys (10, 12, 14) sat in the car ("this is a boring store!") When I got back, they kind of laughed and said,
Quote:
"This says to provide 2 forms of identification, and a recent photograph!"
I knew what they were thinking. "I took this picture of my dog last week; is that recent enough?" We all had a good laugh over it. And yes, they did know what was meant by the statement; they just wanted to point out the vagueness.
And not that these next comments have anything to do with topics here, but I have to share them anyway. When the now-12yo was about 3 he was pushing his tricycle back up our driveway after riding on the flat road. He said,
Quote:
"My feet are out of breath!" ~J
And the now-14 yo said this when he was about 8, playing cards or chess (can't remember which, now):
Quote:
"The silent man plays with skill." ~B
I guess that last one is good for all of us to remember when we "play" with the court.
(edit here We need to be silent and pay attention to what the court/opposing person is saying (so we KNOW what they're saying), but NOT be afraid to speak up loudly and clearly when it's our turn...and sometimes even when it isn't!
