Does Mohammed's claim to be a prophet make him a real prophet?
Same question about Joseph Smith ...

Does the mention of Jesus in favorable terms make the Koran a reliable and holy book?
Same question about the Book of Mormon ....

Personally I suspect all books that came after the original Hebrew text. There are soooo many distortions and variations of Christian works and all that came after. I have a number of books on the dead sea scrolls and it really reveals the controversial nature of early Christian writings. I'm not Jewish, but I respect and acknowledge the intact and unchanged word of God passed down through the Torah, Prophets and Writings.

The cannonization of the council of Nicea that was overseen by a convert from a pagan is highly suspect. After all Moses was raised as an Egyption prince, found out he was Hebrew and learned and transcribed the word of God directly from the source.

My opinion only.. but it is something to consider.. why did they "edit" God's word at Nicea ? There is no mention that God oversaw the cannonization process and authorized or recommended the changes to the original text. It is hard to overlook the changed meaning of so many teachings that occured during this cannonization process.

Look at the bloodshed, controversy and debt that these variations and omissions have caused over the past 1800+ years.

The same questions can be asked of any faith.

Is Jesus "the Son of God"?
2 out of 3 monotheistic religions say no ....

Has the Bible been uncorrupted?
Changes were made during the Councils of Nicea and Trent ...

So Shoonra, are you comparing Muhammad to Joseph Smith? Are you comparing the Qur'an to the Book of Mormon?

I am trying to figure out if you are constructing straw men or red herrings. Your analogies are weak, IMHO.

Best analogy I can come up with.
ANOTHER religion with its own prophet and its own version of Jesus. There are probably more than that, but I picked the one that Americans would immediately recognize.

How many Americans would AUTOMATICALLY speak of "the Prophet Joseph Smith" and automatically censor any disrespectful reference to him?
How many Americans would AUTOMATICALLY treat the Book of Mormon as a holy book and punish any disrespectful handling of a copy?

And yet Mormons are consistently among our best citizens, and Moslems are usually among our enemies.

Those are pretty broad brushes you paint with.

I am sure you speak for all Mormons and Muslims with the stereotypical quote above.....

What do your superfluous analogies have to do with the original claim of this thread? Seems to me you are interjecting arguments that detract rather than contribute to this discussion.

How, precisely, aren't you appearing a "bit" anti-semitic?

Are you anti-semitic?

I have taught hundreds of friendly Islamic ("Moslem") children, have sterling Islamic neigbors, and find your statement repugnant, and terrifying.

Perhaps I should report you to the Anti-Defamation League as an anti-semitic terrorist?
