What would telling a lie make you, then?

Sounds like you are honest with yourself. Most people are in deception on that point, which is definitely the first and only step to spiritual growth.

Okay, to the rest of the gang, If you've ever lied, then what would that make you?

In other words, If I lied and you knew that I did, what would you say that I am?

Human, on both counts.

E.G.:

"Hey, how ya doin?"

"Fine."

Big fat lie! My house may have just burned down, the IRS is throwing me in jail, and the dish ran away with the spoon! But no one wants to hear....what is that word...oh, right, the TRUTH. So we spend our lives embracing the concept of "truth" when what we expect from both ourselves and others is a convenient lie that challenges no one or anything....

Heh heh ..excellent observation Randy. I concur.

The Truth is sacrificed every day, over and over again. It is the nature of the beast.

So if I, or someone else, lied about you and you were telling someone about it; would you then say,
"That guy Weis lied about me---What a human!" ?
Or would you say that I was something else?
Human nature is definitely the CAUSE of someone lying.
But more specifically, if someone lies, what does that make them?

Oh, I don't think it's "human nature" that makes us lie, not at all. Let's see, there's:

1. "Social Pressure": We wouldn't dare tell that nice old lady in church that her hat--with all those flowers--was ugly enough to stop a clock, right?

2. "Higher Morality": I think the example, or something similar, has already been given. Someone breaks in your home and wants to kill everyone in your famile. Would you tell them your kid was hiding under the bed?

3. "Practical Reality": You want a day off work. Ask the boss "nicely" and tell the "truth" that you simply want to spend the day in bed making wild monkey love, and he'll say "NO!" So, call in sick the next day, and you've done HIM a favor by, what else, telling a lie!

And so forth.

So, I guess "lies" of the "legal variety" fall under "slander," or whatever. After that, it's just about hurt feelings, which could lead to anger, leading to things like the Hatfield and McCoys?

Oooh. Oooh.

How about those "weapons of mass destruction"?

So "lying" for the sake of "national security" is okay, right?

hehehehehe

Weis,

Come on now.....I mean are you expecting someone to actually say something besides 'a liar'?

One sin makes one a sinner. One lie makes one a liar.

We lie if it serves our personal interest. We are willing to sacrifice the Truth to obtain the perceived benefits of the lie....whatever we think they may be.

No one likes a liar though. Which brings up the question of morality which is a stumbling block for atheists. i.e. Why does the result of random activity of pond scum feel guilty or feel that lying is not good?

Now get to the point. The suspence is killing me. ;)

Have You ever stolen?

Randy, awesome stuff, boss ! I think you may have been referring to Weapons of Mass Deception.

K.T., please hang tight & thanks for the logical reply.

O.K. Has anyone out there ever stolen anything?
Taken something that was not yours and intentionally didn't return it?
A paperclip from work?

Steal?

Again, hell yes.

But only from "legal fictions." (hehehehe)

They steal my time. I take an envelope, pen, whatever.

Ah. I love the human capacity for rationalization!

Good no- Forgiven yes.

I have broken every one of the 10 commandments, and will again before I leave this earth. However, I will never suffer the punishment for those sins, because the Blood of Jesus has separated me from my sin and the punishment thereof. I didn't do anything to earn that, and never will be worthy of His forgivness. All I could ever do was to accept what Jesus freely gave on the cross. I can only bow my head daily (actually several times everyday), and humbly thank God for the gift of His Son, and the Blood that was shed for Me at Calvary. So, though I sin daily and am not worthy, yes- I am Forgiven, and Acceptable in the eyes of the Lord. I am a liar, a thief, an adulterer, a coveter, a murderer (in my heart-not in deed), a hater, a disrespector, and probably anything else that can be thought of, but I have a place secured in Heaven, and I am Forgiven--Praise God! I am now a work in progress. I pray daily that I will sin less and less, but there are many days that I fall very short of that goal. Thank God, that the remedy is already there, and all I have to do is admit that I have sinned (again), and accept what has already been given (forgivnes), and Thank God for it.

Whirlwind,
This is too freaky! As I was reading these posts my first thought was that I am bad and good. Bad because of my sin but justified thru Christ! Yes I have lied and on occasion still do when I am afraid to face the music. There are days when I am all skinned up from falling and then there are days when I am upright. The walk of a true Christian I guess! Your post again is the exact thought I had. Over on the Dorean thread I left you a message. Maybe your my long lost twin!
