OKLAHOMA CITY -- A pastor who has spoken out against homosexuality was arrested after propositioning a male undercover police officer outside a hotel, authorities said.

As the Rev. Lonnie Latham, 59, left jail Wednesday, he said "I was set up. I was in the area pastoring to police."

Latham, a member of the Southern Baptist Convention's executive committee, was arrested Tuesday and charged with offering to engage in an act of lewdness, Capt. Jeffrey Becker said.

Calls to Latham and his South Tulsa Baptist Church were not returned for comment.

Latham has supported a convention directive urging members to befriend gays and *******s and try to convince them that they can become heterosexual "if they accept Jesus Christ as their savior and reject their 'sinful, destructive lifestyle.'"

The Southern Baptist Convention is the nation's largest Protestant denomination. Messages left for the convention were not returned.

It happens. Pastors, (ahem) are usually on a power trip, until someone rings their bell.

So happens the police rang his.

Exclamation

It appears to me you are the one on the fishing expedition.

Is this just to rile members up, or do you have something to discuss about it?

I have no evidence to examine, but quite honestly,I couldn't care less one way or the other.

Well, if I may lob over my two centavos here... generally, when I hear or read about lewdness or pedophilic activity transpiring from people of the "cloth" the track record as I have observed it tends to be against those so accused.

However, being that SuiJuris.net is principally a legal/political forum, unless we, the respective membership, are going to discuss the law, facts, evidence, or procedure associated regarding this case [a doubtful prospect] I shall axe this thread.
