IN regards to filing and income taxes -

I am a recent college graduate, and have never earned any substantial wages. But last year I completed an online tax return and regained everything that was taken out of my paycheck. (because I made so little)

Question is, did that count as my 'first return?' i.e., am I in the system now? I didn't sign anything, just checked some boxes and typed some numbers.

Help

Hmmm... well, I think that you may have started the ball rolling, because now they will expect one from you every year.

That is the problem. People don't know this until after they've already filed one or more. I would like to say that a signature would be needed to have the 'contract' in place, but the system has been notified of your existence, and that you are filing, so the system will most likely automatically add your SSN to the list of "expected returns" next year.

The IMF for you probably has the code that indicates that a return is expected/required every year. What I'm trying to find out is at what point is the IMF created? Is it created with your SSN application or when your first 1040 is filed (electronic or paper)?

Tell kids just starting out to not file a 1040. Also, tell them to avoid signing a W-4. If they have trouble getting a job, at least get them to sign a W-4 exempt. Same for state tax agency. I know there are those that frown on this, but if they aren't in the system at all (never having filed 1040's), then the 'questionable w-4' center shouldn't bring up anything when their w-4 is processed.

That's what I'd do, at least.

I gave my son a W-4 T and his company took it with no problem. You might want to look into that method instead of the W-4 exempt method. I had a lot of trouble with the W-4 exempt process.

Its a public domain form, not an IRS form. If you put in a search for a W-4 T you will find it with no problem. It replaces the W 4.

[color=black][b]I don't know guys, this came from the dept of accounts government website regarding w4T:<blockquote>Page 4 of 6

http://www.doa.state.va.us/docs/proc...ns/payroll.htm

Fake W-4 Circulating - Beware

Form W-4T - Invalid Form

Recently a Form W-4T, Voluntary Withholding Agreement, has been

circulating on the Internet which provides for an exemption to Federal

Income Tax withholding. The IRS has stated that it has never issued Form W-4T.

What to do if a W-4T is presented

If you are presented with this form, inform the employee it is not a legitimate government document. Should you need to validate this with the employee, you can either visit the IRS Web site or have the employee call 800-TAX-FORMS. Invalid W-4'sAll W-4 forms should be free from any markings other than what's requested. If there are other markings on the form when it is presented, provide the employee with a blank form and inform the employee that no additional notations are permitted on the form. Until you receive a valid W-4, withhold at the single rate</blockquote>

Why do you guys think that on the Test Your Research skills Thread, I keep asking you to find the Official Government Website for certain information that gets circulated. Yes, I do know that there is info off the record, so lets not go there.

Another thing, this is a thread concerning the living legend, Irwin Schiff. Let's continue the W-4 thing in the Keep Your Wages Thread HERE. Let's try to stay focused.
