small win with a creditor
Two days ago my former roommate informed me he received a call from an unknown party per his phone's CallerID. He answered and was caught off guard and ID'd himself. MCI called him about an outstanding balance from almost two years ago (he no longer has service with them). The MCI guy asked him how he'd like to settle the matter. My friend asked if MCI Guy had seen the paperwork sent to them (a couple of weeks prior he had sent MCI a VOD). MCI Guy stated he wasn't aware of this and would check with his supervisor. A few moments later a supervisor came on the line and told my friend he was holding the paperwork before him and apologized. They apparently made a "clerical error" and that furthermore, the matter is settled and they wouldn't bother him again.
An honest mistake on MCI's part? I'm actually inclined to believe so.
If "clerical error" is defined in MCI's debt collection lexicon as: "making presentment upon an individual who has a clue", then maybe they were speaking the truth!
