I haven't really been able to confirm it elsewhere, and my guess is that this is some kind Internet hoax. The gist of it is that Texas has recently passed a law that makes the fiing of fraudulent liens (as is extremely, extremely common at the IRS) to be a felony, and it gives citizens recourse to prosecute rogue IRS agents as the basis of this fraud.
Now that said, whether or not Texas actually passed such a law, the idea of passing such a law certainly carries a great deal of appeal.
My purpose in posting this is to pose a couple questions:
1) Is this for real? Did Texas really pass a law like this?
2) What do people on this board think about the possibility of formulating such a law and trying to pass into law in California through a ballot initiative? (Certainly other states could as well, but I'm not sure every State has the ballot initiative process that California does.. in most States you would probably have to work through the legislature/congressmen in your State district, which could be more of an uphill battle).
There are pros and cons to passing such an initiative.. As a con, it *is* a fact that most IRS liens, proceedings, etc are total frauds, and this *does* give citizens (already) a recourse against the IRS. If you can obtain via FOIA from IRS do***entation that their liens, levys, assessments are fraudulent, you already *can* use this against them..
By forcing the IRS to cross their Ts and dot their Is a little more thoroughly, this "safety valve" (<- which I currently think is one of the most effective ways of fighting the IRS) would be closed.
On the other hand, it gives a very strong message to IRS that they are viewed as a foreign, occupying military power, and it could be the first step to pushing IRS out of the several States and back to Puerto Rico where their only legitimate taxing authority actually lies..
I view the IRS/income tax as little more than military tribute that we Americans pay to the central banks that conquered this nation back in the early 20th century.
It's time to free this nation from the foreign military occupation its been suffering under for the past century..
So what do people think about putting together a ballot initiative like this in California? Is it a good idea (if it were worded properly)? What are the odds of success? Aaron Russo lives down in LA, doesn't he?
