EVIL of RECYCLING

The Evils of State Recycling.

This has been a thought in my head for years now. I come from a hippy town (however way more republicans vote than the dreadlocked white boys… so the politics are still conservative despite a huge majority of liberals on the street.) so of course this pisses in their pool real nicely.

First we take the can of soda. The state recognizes that the most valuable part of the purchase is actually the can. So how do we get our hands on the can says the state.

Lets say that the can is actually worth 3 cents. The state comes along and taxes you the consumer 5 cents on the can. Now are you going to be able to take the can and sell it to a manufacturer? Sure at a 2 cent loss. So now you have to redeem the can with the state or else lose your taxed money.

The money received in return from the state WAS your taxed money. Now the TAX money is gone from the state. Now the state OWNS one aluminum can. Did the state pay for such a can? No, the state has essentially stolen the can as they have it but have not paid for it. Why does the state not give you the TAXED money in return AS WELL AS the fair market value of the can? Because that would defeat the entire point of stealing the can in the first place. Realize that the state now has a can of value and it is no longer considered “tax revenue.” This is good for the state

Tax money is not the preferred form of money for the legislature as tax money must be appropriated. When a can is not redeemed the state keeps the entire TAX on the can at a huge profit, however it is still TAX revenue and even the state does not prefer this money. So the state wants that can recycled and redeemed. At the point that the can is redeemed the state will own the can and can sell the can to a bottling corporation or manufacturer. Money generated from the sale of the cans is not TAX revenue and thus needs not to be appropriated.

The state sells that can that was worth 3 cents to the bottling company at a reduced rate at lets say 2 cents a can. The bottling company wins (who probably pushed for the legislation in the first place) and the state is happy as they just legally stole a bunch of money that no longer needs appropriation.

On top of that the local municipalities make it mandatory to cut organic material from around houses and such and then offer “free” compost pickup by the private corporation “Waste Management” who then composts all of it and sells it back to the people as potting soil. The municipality creates an obligation for me to remove the grass and tree trimming from the property (They are not going to allow compost of all of that in our backyards as that would be a “fire danger” and it would reduce property to blight levels. ;) ) Then the Municipality will contract a corporation to come and pick it up. Also the Wasle Managment company will often come and pick up cans as well leaving a 5 cent proffit to them and a 5 cent loss to the purchaser. So now with curb side recycling all of the product value and the tax money is kept.

So the state and its municipal corporations have found a way to harvest every can, glass bottle, plastic bottle, bag of grass clippings, all free and for profit.

As a last note does anyone actually know if a recycling plant is less damaging to the earth then a mining pit?

The state needs to back off and let us recycle ourselves.

You know, I never thought of it that way. I saw a video of Penn & Teller (not a fan of them) that laid out how recycling was bull***t. They said in most communities, the cost of pickup and processing was greater than the money generated by reselling the materials. It's to bad because I seperate 98% of my trash for recycling.

Codee,

Definately a unique point of view there. Kinda like how a tree removal service will charge an arm and a leg to remove trees and brush and then turn around and sell the firewood and mulch that was obtained from the customer at no additional cost to them!

“Removing all plant debris from the site is one example of an especially damaging practice. It removes food and habitat for birds, insects and beneficial soil organisms. It mines our local soils of nutrients and degrades soil health. Often, the result is an increased dependency on fertilizers and irrigation, as well as greater stormwater runoff, erosion and pollution of the bay.”

“Abstract This study presents the distribution of blood lead levels and lead in various environmental samples (water, sediments, soils, and air) near the Shing-Yie storage battery recycling plant in Taiwan before (July 1990 to June 1991) and after (July 1992 to June 1993) amelioration. Before amelioration, the average blood lead levels in the neighborhood of the plant were in the range of 10.55±5.7 to 12.28±7.9”

A large fire Tuesday at a plastics recycling plant near Amherstburg, Ont., prompted officials to order about 400 people to leave the area within a two-kilometre radius of the blaze.

The fire, which began shortly after noon ET at Enviro-Tech Plastics, consumed polyethylene and polypropylene in the trash outside the plant, fire officials said.

Plastic material in the trash outside a recycling plant was the fuel for this fire in Amhearstburg, Ont.

Windsor fire department Chief Dave Fields told CBC News that the Windsor hazardous materials team was dispatched to McGregor to monitor air quality in case the smoke blows in the direction of the nearby hamlet.

A £20m plant to turn domestic waste into compost and fuel is planned for Duffryn Business Park, Ystrad Mynach.

Bergstrom Europe, which makes heating and air conditioning systems for motor vehicles, says it is worried about the effects of pollution and traffic.

The breakdown of many man made materials, especially those that are petrochemical pose a lot of problems. I remember the fire that broke out in a local junkyard when I was a kid. They had a pile of about half a million (Fire Dept estimate)tires and the oils that leached out decided to spontaneously combust one hot summer day. Sucker burned for about 2 weeks before burning itself out. Fire department had to monitor it for about 2 weeks 24-7 to keep it contained to the yard. Was pretty disgusting to breathe down there....no way for them to get to the fire at the heart of the pile to extinguish it!!!
