Seriously ---

Notwithstanding DMs explanation, that depends on the context.

When discussing the Federal Reserve and the "monies" of the US, IMF stands for International Monetary Fund.

When discussing the IRS and the information pertaining to "taxpayers", IMF stands for Individual Master File.

all seriousness aside...

The IMF is an organ of the United Nations. The IMF and the IBRD - International Bank of Reconstruction and Development were created as organs of the UN originally and have effectively blended together into the World Bank - still an organ of the UN.
