Re:application revisited, and a step further

Another thought occurred to me. What's to say I can't place n/a in the ssn number field on these forms? (W-4's both state and federal). Or "against religious beliefs" or something to that effect.

On the state form it asks if I am a full-time student. These days I genuinely feel I am! lol! I wonder if I can mark that as it isn't specifically defined on the form?

This is a form for the STATE REVENUE DEPARTMENT. Yet, nowhere do I see any Codes/Statutes or Laws cited other than when you sign they say you are signing under penalties provided by Law that the withholding allowances claimed don't exceed that which I'm entitled to.

Any extra thoughts, guys?

Thank you! You guys are great! I'm very&honored to be able to talk with some knowledgeable scholars!

Peace,

Okay guys, I found the W-8 Substitute form and the attachment. I'll go print these out. Hopefully the employer will accept them.

Thank you!

Yes, it's the district of Columbia.

However, most people (such as the employer) believe it to be the entire country, including all states. When I told the employer I wasn't a U.S. citizen, he told me I'd have to fill out an I-9 form, lol! So he obviously wasn't sure what I was talking about. He didn't dismiss what I said, he just kept falling back on the fact that the corporate over him tells him to do things this way, and no other.

Peace,

goldphoenix

Re:application revisited, and a step further

another attempt failed. I went in to the employer, and he said the corporate office told him no ssn, no hire. I tried to show him the paperwork which I spent over $5 on (which could have went toward food). I tried to serve him with Citizen's Notices, etc. The assistant manager there was saying they would be fined $10,000 for hiring someone without an ssn. So he had me call up social security admin on his phone, and guess what they said!

Me: Does someone have to get an ssn in order to work in this country?

Her: Yes.

Me: I thought it was a voluntary program.

Her: No, it's not voluntary. It's Public Law. You have to have a social security number to work in this country. You HAVE to pay social security tax.

Me: I thought filing was voluntary. I thought the program was voluntary. What if you don't want to receive ss benefits?

Her: I don't really deal with this sort of thing.

Me: You ARE a representative of ssa, aren't you? And you can't tell me whether a social security number is voluntary or not? It says right on your website that it is.

Her: Yes, but your employer doesn't have to hire you if you don't have one.

I was on hold for like an hour in this place of business. No supervisor would come to the phone to answer my questions. No one there really knew anything. All they kept spouting was that one HAS to have an ssn to be employed.

I told the employer it was against my religious beliefs to use the number and I feel it's the mark of the beast. He said that was fine, I had that right to believe that, and he has the right to decline me employment because I don't have an ssn.

I'm about to give up on this. What good does it do me if I can't feed my family or pay my bills?

I'm sorry, I'm VERY discouraged.

I tried offering other forms to fill out. They wouldn't accept anything I had. I even showed them printouts of the code. They wouldn't even look at it.

Down and out,

goldphoenix

Re:application revisited, and a step further

I suppose I could always sign the stupid forms, give them the number, and then later revoke the forms. I've got to eat.

You could sign the forms and go to work...

or you could sue their pants off...

You do what you think is right...

By the way, did you get the name of the woman from the SSA???& She lied to you in her official capacity and can be held liable for tort.

Has anyone ever seen this:

&This is in direct contradiction to what the woman from SSA told goldphoenix during their phone conversation.
