W-4 NOTICE TO TERMINATE

Kaos in 'da heyows,

Word on the street is that the IRS informs employers or their accountants,etc.. to report exempt w-4's or those who claim the max which is 10. Schiff lately has been telling people to claim 9 based on the following logic:

The spaces where you mark "# of dependents" can also mean you are claiming a number of deductions to bring you to your tax liability which is really zero.

It sucks that their lawyers are so lame-maybe we need to draft a discrimination of sovereigns lawsuit based on citizenship.

Is there anyone out there that think that might be a good or bad idea? If a good one, how?

W-4 NOTICE TO TERMINATE

I don't think claiming 9 dependents is a good idea. It could be seen as lying. Instead of arguing law and interpretations with the payroll dept, a better solution would have been to try to get them to believe that all is well, that you aren't scamming, that you've done this before, that you handle taxes differntly than most, etc. As long as you aren't argumentative and sound confident and even helpful, then they might be more willing to put you into the system that way. When they get all worried about it, calmly reassuring them that this is normal and that you and the tax agencies settle at different times of the year than normal will sometimes work.

This doesn't really help if you already work for a company and have been normal withholding and suddenly decide to change it. It is best when you start a new job. If they really push back, then you can drop little hints about possible legal action for tampering with your tax do***ents without authorization and making tax determinations on your behalf without your permission. If they go to the IRS, of course the IRS will always say no to anyone, so the trick is to not let it get that far.
