Yep, very important. Apparently, it survived the appeals process too. Now, we need to find a way to use this when trying to explain to the payroll dept at your work that the anonymous letters from the IRS don't mean squat unless they have a court order attached. Unfortunately, the local payroll person will usually need a change of underwear after they see the letters "I R S", so they won't listen to a thing you say.

It seems to me that that court decision applies only to taxpayers and IRS Summons', not to third parties, or notices of levy. That's how I would read it anyway.

I agree with PanicPass. This is about section 7602 summonses. it's a very good decision, but not a silver bullet for other issues.
