"Fishing"
Hi all..aprx 2 wks ago responded with CTR3 letter in response to (3) "Notice of Deficiancy" letters recieved, each with a "Special Letter" cover sheet requesting "address verification" from Ogden. Did not sign, or fill out any of "their" paperwork. Well today, recieved (3) more "address verification" requests from Fresno, wanting returned in 10 days.
So...Respond..or..Ignore??? If I respond, will change "their" address format to similar:
Sky G Zr (change from ALL CAPS STRAW)
c/o 12345 SW Somewhere Plz #666
City,Washington state (NOT WA Corp)
[99798-0666]
Non Domestic-Non Federal
-----OR----Perhaps keep the STRAWMAN FORMAT (since that is how I usually "sign") PRINTED ALL CAPS(c)
(I only use non-DEBTOR "First Middle Last" full signature upon any Affidavit type Document)
yet change the address per above.....hint's, help's, suggestions appreciated.
P.S. FYI..If mailing Registered, Restricted Delivery is no longer "allowed". Upon the return of (2) of (3) "green cards" it was hand written "restricted del. n/a due to security procedures". Not sure if it's the USPS or?? Also, the return address was printed as above, yet the state(NOT&ST Corp), and the Non-Domestic Non-Federal was "blacked out" with a sharpie. Bracketed "zip code" was left alone, as well as the fully spelled out State name.

Re:
also, what exactly is there to respond to, if only the "address verification"?& did they cite some code/statute to compel compliance?
if all they are asking for is address verification & it was sent certified mail, they have their verification and there's nothing you need to do as far as i know, unless there is some code/statute compelling compliance...
and, of course, what Ice said...

Re:fFishing
jmunson, no code/statute, they "need my assistance to help update their records". No "certified" mailing, and I believe they usually won't send that way as most people will refuse delivery, or just not accept delivery.
As far as "privacy" is concerned, sure doesn't seem like it these days, yet it depends on how one approaches the topic. The STRAW has none for sure, it's getting the Flesh/Blood into and away from the STRAW position/association to attain such.

Re:
That's the letter 2797, right? It was confusing to me the first time I saw it, because it had cp-515 in one field, but definitely wasn't the cp515 "Where is your return" type letter, but just an "Are you there?" letter.
I received two last year. There is no OMB on them, so they don't have (or at least are not citing) and authority to ask you for the info. Besides, they really don't need your address for anything good, do they?
I didn't respond, and got a maildrop (not a PO BOX) and did a change of address. If they check the national change of address database, they'll get something that looks like a residential address, but isn't.
I did a websearch once on the the letter 2797, and found a link to the online IR Manual and I saw that it was used for several things, sometimes, at the beginning of an investigation. However, they had time limits on getting answers before proceeding on with the investigation and I think I've passed all of those.
That was the first time I'd heard from the IRS in 8 years.
If you don't see a need for them to know where you and your property are located, and you don't see any OMB or other citation of authority to answer, I wouldn't think you'd need to answer. I didn't.
Don't know if any of that helped.
