Sign "Refusal For Cause" on ticket

Seems like you could just sign a ticket, "Refusal For Cause".

Wouldn't that be considered, returning the offer to contract within 72 hours?

One suitor did that. He just wrote Refusal for Cause across the presentment and took his copy, tendered the clipboard back to the deputy sheriff. After a moment the deputy returned demanding he give back his copy. After three stern demands, the suitor gave up the copy of the R4C. That was even more stupid than R4C with the officer.

The officer told him to stay put while he wrote up another identical presentment. Before bringing it the officer wrote Refused to Sign in the appearance contract box and stuffed it into the van window and ran away back toward his car. Well that is when the suitor got even more stupid and his reaction was to throw it out on the ground immediately. With business over for the day, he drove off at the regular speed limit. A few minutes later he was surrounded by pistols and rifles.

Service to the agent is service to the principal and vice versa. So R4C traffic matters to the Sheriff or the Chief of Police.

Regards,

David Merrill.

They say that ignorance of the law is no excuse. Maybe someone should let the cops know that.

Lesson then would be not to follow the "stupid" actions of that suitor.

Sign, Refusal For Cause on the signature line nonchalantly as if your signing your name.
Make a copy and then mail your original copy to the Sheriff/Chief respectively.

Wouldn't that also be a good time to ask for the oath of office, or just sign and leave?

Either sign it or not. I just won't sign. Go to jail, go before the judge and get the process going.

The officer typically will write Refused to Sign and serve the presentment. That is contract law. You then have 72 hours or so to Refuse for Cause.

Yes. But in your theory the police officer will not look at the signature line.

The police officer will feel threatened if you start exercising your right of contract avoidance with him or her. So a police officer may go Postal pretty quick. Do not assume that somebody with such a high pressure career that depends on the color of law and force to be calm and stable.

David Merrill.

I rather not fight with a police officer. I will tell them they might as well take me to jail as I will not sign.

You can write what ever you want on that ticket as long as you do not alter the words already on it.

It is the difference between conditional acceptance and...

rewriting the offer.

One is allowed.
