I am best know for my travel work so I will post here.
I was engaged in a thread concerning right to travel issues. There was a challenging thread that I took part in. The thread quickly devolved into personal attacks across the board. I took part in those too.
I was weighing my not wanting to give up to arguments that I saw as inherently wrong but then added extra venom in response to what I perceived as a personal attack.
I do not sell my work and I do not care about getting any “followers.” My work here was supposed to be in exchange for benefit of constructive criticism. What I began to get from some members I just could not qualify as more then someone just trying to throw monkey wrenches in the gears. My workflow was disrupted and it made me very frustrated that it was happening. It was the same thing that made me not post on the Internet for the first ten years of my research.
I was not able to find the tools in me or without to stop this. I find many people do not know how to argue the merits of what I write beyond just saying “Well this argument I have is better.” These arguments do not argue against a point that I made in my posts. All they do is you the thread topics I have started to ADVERTISE there view point. I do not know if they are just not getting enough attention for their thread that they start or what... but they always pervade.
In the end Weis took action and cleaned up my thread. I am still thankful for that. But the lack of moderation letting any topic be forced by two arguing members into some alien topic because whatever those members are arguing about shares a key word is absurd. Eventually all we would have on Every thread is David Merrill arguing how refusal is Gold, Jersey arguing for acceptance, and Me going for SMJ. Every topic would be the same argument by the same sections of theory. Not much fun or learning.
I wanted to take a topic that I have down so deep and know inside and out and am only in the very middle of,,, and try to get a discussion going that eventually explores all of this research that I have done but no matter what the topic is... If it does not somehow incorporate 14th amendment citizenship, No money in circulation, Not being a person, UPPERCASE NAME, UCC, then your topic...
WILL ALWAYS BE HIJACKED!!! ALWAYS!
You will never be able to take the conversation where it should go because as readers are following along and sending you PRIVATE messages about PERSONAL disagreements, there are those that want to ADVERTISE their view and offer no counter at all to what you are saying. Their opinion amounts to not them challenging you idea but just showing up and saying... “Well my idea is better.” And that is that. Then they get a buddy or counterpart (DM VS JRB) on there with them and whallah... You are out numbered 2 to 1 and the same people have hijacked your thread again. There is so much prattle in between that no one can follow the original thread. My own brother has a hard time with the threads that way and he knows my stuff better than anyone on here save me.
This type of thing can lead to huge frustration after you have spent MONTHS building a thread just to have someone that no one ever pays attention to just start posting on your thread their own theory not related to what is going on at all, just because they need attention and no one is giving it to them.
I wish my moderator meant something. It never did. Post went astray and it was pulling teeth to get them straight save my last incident with Weis who did act with honor and swiftness to my plights.
The fact is this type of thing requires a change from the admins. I do not see them as interested in this. It would require people acknowledging the author of the thread and the main posters, in that order, as people who have a say in what is and is not productive.
As an author of a popular thread I am so frustrated it is beginning to feel like working in concrete. I cannot find the energy to post right now on this forum under current defacto guild lines.
I just have so much research and stuff to explore and hundreds of leads that I really do not have the time for this type of exchange.
