Encounter With El Dorado Co. Sheriff - Placerville, California

Officer- "You need to have a rear license plate."

Me- I'm travelling in my private capacity. I'm not in commerce.

Officer asks again, I repeat answer.
Officer asks if I have a driver's license.
I repeat answer.

Officer asks me to step out of car.
I comply - Mistake #1.

Officer says she needs to see some ID.
I said that I would write my name and address down.

Officer repeats demand.
I repeat answer.

Officer ASKS if she may search me for knives or dangerous weapons.
I give the OK. ( Don't know why, mind tricked, just said , OK) - BIGGEST Mistake #2

Officer finds DL and begins to run numbers.

Arrested for driving on a suspended, car towed.

THEN!

NOT CHARGED FOR ANYTHING!!!
CAR NOT IMPOUNDED OR HELD!!!

Considering my mistakes, I'm happy regarding the outcome as it proves some interesting points and satisfying facts.

My guess is that they probably just wanted to check your Identity so they detained you.

Bet your glad your car was not impounded! Did they just keep it at the station or what?

I've NEVER heard of anyone NOT get charged for driving on a suspended DL
AND without current reg.!

It was towed by the tow company to their yard.
A GOOD friend talked them into not charging me $50/day.

You get your papers in order, that's why you get away with it. Your record must have a caution to the officer, when your record checks by the officer. It's happen to me all the time. They always defaulted never appear in court without sending them any notice.

How would an officer know whether or not you were in commerce, and what is the officer trained to do if you don't cooperate?

Thanks.

Thanks.

One could tell the officer.

One could notice the officer.

One could post notice on the car.

One could have it placed on his data file attached to his license.

One could notice the officers superior.
