Importing an Automobile for Private Use
I have been thinking about this for years and I have a work around for importing cars and trucks that we do not get in the 'states'.
This page shows some of the statutes that may apply and I have also found some things in Title 42 and 49. I have tons of research, just no point in posting it all here, but I can if needed.
http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/...ite/index.html
My initial thinking is that since I am dealing with imort/export, I may have trouble avoiding the 'Federal' gov't, however, the other side is
that I have the right to acquire and own property from whomever or wherever I want. Since it will not be a 'motor vehicle', used in commerce, etc., in theory it should be no problem. In reality, i may be a big PITA.
Any one have any suggestions on how to work around EPA, DOT, NHTSA, etc. Maybe some type of declaration from the PO stating its not a 'motor vehicle' and is instead full title private property being conveyed to another private party within a state to be used as an automobile, etc.

Actually, aguy on this board Raptor (something or other)
Bought a Motorbike free & clear and told the dealer that he was taking it "outside of the U.S." and needed the MCO.
He did it with success
However, there wound up being some problems
The first mistake is that he bought it in his name, when he should have had a Massachusettes Business Trust do it
This resulted in them finding where he lived, busting his garage door down, and then seizing his bike!!
Next, He never followed through with his claim
I told him to file the MCO w/affidavit to get it into the public and then default the State & local authorities on it
So i would set up a Mass Bs Trust, have a freind negotiate the deal & inform the car dealer that he will only buy the car if he gets the MCO, because he needs to take it out of the U.S.

I have spoken with some friends in the car business about MSO's so I know the basics on that. I am guessing there would be something similar in another country. If their system is similar to ours, once purchased, the 'vehicle' is entered into the system, taxes are paid, plates are given, etc and the MSO is gone. If I could get one somehow and tell the dealer, seller, MOT, etc that I am purchasing it for export, that may be another story.
I am trying to remove the automobile from the system, so its not subject to 'vehicle importation' regs and the like. If I purchase a mountain bike from Germany, it just goes through customs and comes to me. A car should be the same way in my mind, ALA its not a motor vehicle.
Thanks
Thom

Don't say export, just inform them that you are taking it "outside of the United States"
If they press you or your nominee for the trust for more details, just tell them that you have signed non disclosure agreements and that you aren't allowed to talk about it
