International Driving Permit
Does anyone know the use and acceptance of the International Driving Permit? I have voluntarily surrendered my license to the state, as they have almost ruined my life with their rules, etc. Do some states accept and some not? Any knowlege helpful.

afaik, every state will "ok" the IDP as it is a united States thing (under the federal gov't's jurisdiction). HOWEVER, be aware that there are some fraudulent IDPs that the "police" know to look for, etc. i couldn't tell you which ones, but i know that certain groups got in heapo hot water for issuing "bogus" IDPs...
i may be wrong, so if someone else knows better, please correct me...

I have looked into the International Driver Permit a little bit since I want to get rid of the State Driver License and don't have the time to start another battle with the government right now.
I believe that the IDP only translates your current drivers license into several different languages to be used in other countries, but is only valid with your current state issued license. And I also believe that while travelling (driving?) in America you must use your current state license. I could be wrong though. Anyone know any better let me know too.

I am a member of the Pembina Nation and I am going to get a Pembina license since my state license has expired. If you are a member you can get the license for $50 and use it anywhere in the U.S. I plan on getting the tags for my truck from the Pembina Nation also. They cost $50 and never expire. It costs $50 to join the Pembina Nation and be registered with them. (seems like everything they offer costs $50) I know severel other Pembina members here in my state and none of them have been hasled yet, but that's not to say they won't. You might want to look into that angle.

OK leatherlips, where is Pembina Nation, and how would someone go about getting one, website link, phone, mail? My state license has expired and I also voluntarily surrendered it as well, ha ha. I'll pay $50.00 dollars for something that will keep me out of jail, especially where I live.

I checked out the pembia nation site. Looks like there is some shake up with the leadership at this point. They booted their chief for fraud and embezzlement this year! Also noticed the online store section of the site was empty as well.
If the tribe is legit.....they should legally be able to offer licenses and IDP's since they are by definition, sovereign. I would wait, however til they get their isuues dealt with. Question is, will the jack-booted thugs accept them or is that reserved for nations that are signatories to the 1949 road traffic convention?

All,
Let's stay focused:
"The right of the citizen to travel upon the public highways and to transport his property thereon, either by carriage or by automobile, is not a mere privilege which a city may prohibit or permit at will, but a common law right which he has under the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." Thompson v. Smith, 154 SE 579."

I know you are correct Jerseee, but right now I cannot afford yet one more battle line as I'm kinda stretched thin right now (IRS problems mainly), but still want to get rid of the State permit to "drive". I know if I just can the plates I will wind up in jail for a while and my auto stolen and not returned.
Last night I did a bit of searching and found that North Dakota does not recognize these plates or licenses. Check HERE. This is why for the time being I am just going to continue to do what everyone else is doing and keep going to the DMV until I have more resources or something better comes along. If someone out there has had a good experience with these plates and licenses let me know.

We may have the unalienable right to travel but try telling that to the cop who is more than willing to arrest, or worse yet, beat you to a bloody pulp to secure your compliance with "colorable law". Like Mao Tse-dong said....Just-us comes out of the barrel of a gun. We need learn how to adminsitratively arm ourselves to secure our God given liberties and take these lawless officials out to the woodshed. Until then, I see no reason not explore alternative methods to keep the wolves off our backs until we can assert our right without license. Its a lot easier to do that OUT of jail or having the system attempt to deprive us of our livehood. I agree with Sui Juris and Ice when they tell us to prepare ourselves BEFORE going to battle with the system, instead of waiting until we are in hot water.
I read that link about the Pembia nation... Makes sense that a sub corporation of US Inc isnt going to recognize a de jure sovereign body that they have been defrauding for over a century now. If my reading on this site is correct, Fraud vitiates anything it touches from the beginning; and I for one hope that their struggle is victorious!
