Red face Releasing Plate Hold

I was cited for driving on suspended license, DWLS 2nd. The car I was driving belonged to a friend. I live in Michigan. The P.O. took the plate and according to SOS, it's still on "plate hold", his birthday is 1-10 and the SOS said the case had to be adjudicated first. The problem is, he wasn't driving the car, he wasn't convicted of anything. Is there any letter or any recourse for him to not end up driving on a car that this city has taken over? Can I send a fax to SOS on his behalf stating that this particular is his private property and has no connection to any actual crime and that he is being uduly punished for something he didn't do!!! The SOS also said that he could sell this car to someone as long as they are not a relative. Imagine that. Any ideas???

Lavender,

I think the reason the plate was taken is they will claim the person you borrowed the car from should have known your (Strawman) license was suspended and should not have let you borrow the car. Their line of thinking is that he is ultimately responsible and that is why the plate was taken. I would certainly check out ticketslayer.com on this one.

Red face

I'l check out ticketslayer.com, but I actually thought there was a Supreme Court ruling somewhere stating that someone's private property cannot be taken without due process or an actual order. Making someone else suffer, without any recourse is downright ridiculous. Can you unregister a car, and claim it as private property? Why would anyone in their right mind go along with this ponzi scheme of registration and licensing?

how are the plates anyone's private property?

as far as i know, they don't belong to the owner of the car, they belong to the state.
