We are rattling some feathers!
I live in the great Republic of North Carolina.
Today I took my both my 15 & 16 year-olds to DMV to obtain learners permits. Granted I know that they do not need them, but was not yet able to explain to them why their parent consideres travelling behind the wheel of an automobile without a license is not a crime.
16 year-old could not get one because Dr. had failed to submit an OT evaluation. 15-year-old was preparing to sign on the dotted line, and I informed him to place "W/O Prejudice UUC 1-207" above his signature. The examiner said that they were not allowed to put anything in that box besides a signature.
I explained that is the way that I am teaching them to give their signature. She said it's against statute -- that NOTHING could go in the box. I asked for the statute. She went to obtain procedure manual which is what they use, and sure as ****, it states that no one can preface their signature with the words "Without Prejudice" -- I wonder why????
I know that it is not in the statutes because I have already checked, but because it is in the procedure manual, talking to one of the examiners is not going to do us any good. I have to now write a letter to the DMV requesting verification of their authorization for this blatant subrogation of rights.
Needless to say, I have a 15 year-old who is livid that I would not let him obtain his permit. I explained that I would not let him give up his RIGHT to travel for the PRIViLEGE of driving.
Do you realize that explaining this to my teen's is definitely going to be harder than explaing the bird's and the bee's? If adults find the concept hard to believe, just try explaining it to teen's!
ANY IDEAS?

One of my girls just hit 13. I am thinking that she just might enjoy traveling for leisure before she has hit the magic age where we "get a license!"
Let's see, if she is pulled over, nothing goes on a record that doesn't exist and a court scene just might expose her to the charade. Yeah, but just wait until she tells mom!
Way to teach your kids that giving up your rights has consequences, Sfergnel. Although I am contemplating these consequences of NEVER getting a license for my daughter.

Agreed, if there were more parents around like you, these two countries would not be such ****holes of slavery right now.
Way to go!

Those UCC 1-207 disclaimers NEVER work anyhow. Urban legend.
And before you trash me, show me a proven instance where they have worked to avoid anything.

If these disclaimers NEVER / DON'T work, then why would the DMV prohibit their being used as part of an individual's signature?
This incident gave me further proof that we are indeed living in a "MATRIX"!!

kgod,
I disagree. I believe that it is better for them to confront the beast now, so that if they run into trouble "driving", I could be there to help them navigate "Legalland". That way, when they come of age, they will be better prepared to handle BB in a matter befitting a sovereign. The right way!!
scottinalaska,
As I stated, the only reason that I agreed to allow them the opportunity to have the learner's permit, was so that I could forestall having to explain to them about our "MATRIX" existence.
Now that I know they can NEVER have one "legally" (to use the word loosely), I have been allowing them to practice as if they did have one, and in the very near future, I myself will grant them one using examples I have found on this site.

Sfergnel & Scott , you're among the coolest Dads in the world. You're training those kids right to question the false authorities in the right way instead of allowing then to fall into the collectivist goosestep
Good Job. Usually it seems that it is us who has to train our parents to understand what we do

Funny you should mention parents. My parents are appalled and view me as an unhappy man. I tell them I would be unhappy if I lived in an illusion parading around as reality, and, all along I knew it was an illusion. Instead, I take on the animated contest of freedom(Sam Adams) to force the hand of the illusionist to expose a reality that can be touched, known, and lived. That, my friends has brought me a unique happiness. I somewhat look forward to my traffic court date on the 20th now!
My parents do have a point though. We must balance our exposure of fraud to certain friends or forever get cooked in a pot of their choosing and be viewed as miserable wretches. They don't all feel the splinter in their brains. I am sure I've got enough specks in my eye too.
My dad is a retired Lt Col from the airforce. I have shown him some Pentagon stuff very passively. He finally said that certainly an airliner did not hit the place, but really can't go further. Personally, I thought that was a huge step!
