Further erosion of rights

Saw this on www.howtobeinvisible.com:

Here’s the scariest story of the week, unedited:
ny now requires all cars 1996 and newer to have a "emissions" test with yearly inspection. my good friend, service station owner pete connected the car in line before me to a emission testing computer that turns out to be linked directly, real time,to ny dmv.when this vehicle was connected a prompt appeared on the screen to call # displayed before testing.pete called the # and person at dmv gave pete vin#,owners address and name and asked if this info matched registration provided. pete replyed yes and then was asked if owner was present. again the reply was yes and dmv instructed pete to stop any further inspection on that car and wait for dmv to call back within 30 mins to verify vehicle documentation. i'm sure you know what came next. within 10 mins. two sherrif cars with three officers showed up blocking both exits of the parkig lot and arresting the owner of the car still attached to the dmv computer.the owner was behind on his child support payments.his car was impounded WITH OUT BEING INSPECTED and completly searched.DRIVE OLDER VEHICLES IN NY OR BEWARE.

To the originator of the story: (I know rushpat just re-posted this)

Sounds like to me that the Owner of the car in line before you has a lawsuit against your friend Pete.

Unless the owner authorized Pete to tell the state that he was there, Pete had a duty to not reveal information that he was not authorized by his paying customer to reveal.

I don't know Pete, and I'd imagine he's a decent fellow, but If I drove a car in to be inspected, and that happened to me, I'd be on Pete like Texas... (Get it? Texas Pete? )

Update to this post, and edited:

I went and scanned the page that this came from, and it looks like there are a few obvious (unsupported) "scary" stories that [conveniently] cause the reader to understand the need for his book.

Hmmmmm...

Thanks for the post though, and I don't doubt that this story could have some truth in the future, but you know me, I'm a cynic.

How To Be Invisible

I read this book Saturday and Sunday.
If you haven't read it do so and get your name off the car.
The book gives you the "how to's" and is the best $16. I ever spent.
I never would have been turned on to this book unless the sui juris community revealed it to me. I am sooooo turned on!

It seems that everything you do now is linked to the DMV. Soon taxes will be linked. Almost everyone has to have a car. If you don't pay taxes you won't get to drive. If you don't pay child support you don't get to drive. If you don't pay a traffic ticket, you don't get to drive. if you don't register your car, you don't get to drive. If you don't pay a parking ticket, you don't get to drive. What a great thing this DMV is.
