License from another country

i was looking at the state codes on who is exempt from obtaining a state issued license and one of those categories is people from another country. Interesting, how can they arrest you then if you have a international drivers permit? What about foreign registration and plates?

Re:License from another country

im surprised noone has replied to this post. it seems very interesting to me that the Georgia Laws say that a person with a license form another country can use it. So, again, my question is, how can they arrest you if you have a license from another country? a international license or license from another country should suffice.

Re:License from another country

I don't think the IDP's are issued by particular countries. I think they are kind of neutral. I know my brother used to live in Bermuda and he had a dedicated Bermudian driver's license which sufficed in America.

Re:License from another country

i see your point rushpat. but, now, let me get this straight. If you are a sovereign, you are considered a foreign nation or country, so, and i know this may sound crazy to some people, but if you issue yourself permission to travel, can present a document, you have fulfilled their requirement. Now, im not stupid and know they mean a license from a statutory government agency from another country, but their law doesnt specify that.

If their law doesn't specify... then make one for yourself, make sure that you have all the documentation you will need to present your case in court... and then start using your own license.

CHALLENGE THEM... but make sure it is a challenge you want to make.& Are you ready for that battle?

Bad information & suggestions in this thread

Friends,

IDPs are solely to be used in conjunction with (in support of) the license issued by your home country. It cannot be used alone. It cannot be used by an American in the USA, in lieu of a valid USA state issued driver's license. There is abundant info out there on this subject. Please be very careful so as not to "go down" needlessly on this particular aspect of "the great cause" for which we're fighting.

I was just reading some where, if only I could remember, that an IDP is valid here if it is issued from another country. For instance, if you want to use one to drive in the united States, it would have to be issued from a country like Canada, Mexico, Japan, Australia, etc.

many countries and states don't require a formal DL- and the IDP is valid for these as well.

IDP is just a translation of the original status. They are private issue.
