Car woes

No Speeding: Pedal to the Metal May Becoming a Thing of the Past
December 7, 2005
TORONTO — A system that would enforce speed limits by making it harder to push down on the throttle once the speed limit is passed is being tested by Canadian auto regulators, according to the Toronto Globe and Mail. More...

The system uses a global positioning satellite device installed in the car to monitor the vehicle's speed and position. If the car begins to significantly exceed the speed limit for the road on which it is traveling, the system makes it harder to depress the gas pedal. The system is being tested by Transport Canada, the Canadian equivalent of the U.S. Department of Transportation.

The pilot program involves 10 cars driven by volunteers and is believed to be the first of its kind in North America.

Eventually OnStar type technology will put every conveyance and vehicle at BB's mercy. Your complete itinerary will be avaliable to authorities, finance and insurance companies. Law enforcement will be able to use this to disable vehicles. You are a few days late on the car note and the finance company disables the vehicle and the repo man has the precise coordinates to pick the car up. Your insurance lapses or you use your conveyance in a manner they dont approve of....your vehicle is disabled with the flip of a switch. I think that in conjuction with making the pedal harder to depress, a signal will be given off by the system and voila! you receive a speeding citation in the mail a week later! No and HELL NO to OnStar!

Just as with old computers that geeks recycle because Linux can be installed and run on them, so also should old cars be recycled!

Just because it's old doesnt mean it's useless

Be kind, recycle!

Yes, i'm aware of these other things that are going on. I didn't realize that you were informed, as i am new to the forum. However, i do agree with everything that you say. It's a sad state of affairs.
