Is there a Pilot Amongst us?

I'm working on my training for my Pilot's lisence but naturally, i'm wondering how easy it is to fly without one? Has anyone explored this area of Travel Licensing?

I also have my private, but am not current either. I was working towards becoming an aerial applicator, until my father was killed spaying a field and the engine blew in a turn.

Still go for a ride once in awhile, with my brother.

Life goes on.............

Ok, well it sounds like this will be an interesting area to do some new research on. I can only assume tha tthe FAA is nothing more than a glorified DMV of the air (air which the U.S. doesn't own, mind you).

Is there a Pilot Amongst us?

A couple months ago I was looking into what it took to fly, apparently they don't issue a "License" but a "Certificate". From what I've read you need to take a physical, do so many hours of flight training, pass a written exam, and also pass a flight exam.

However I was looking up plans to build your own plane, and figured if you built it by yourself you should be able to fly it by yourself without the FAA's permission. I don't know what would happen if you didn't use a transponder, or all the fine details in dealing with the aviaton authorities. Maybe NORAD would send up a jet to see what the heck you were doing... or maybe not, seeing their track record [cough] 9-11 [cough].

[color=black][b]The only difference being that NORAD won't be receiving stand down orders for your flights - OH!
