The likely reason is that you are on a older computer and you are loading the fancy editor interface.
If you want to disable this option and use a more basic interface, got to User CP > Edit Options > and then scroll down to Miscellaneous Options.
You can then select the basic editor from the from the drop down list. This will make things load much faster!

Guys, you should really read the F.A.Q. at the top of the page - there is a lot of good stuff in there regarding the new software.
I hope the learning curve does not keep anyone from participating!
